This position reports to the Plant Controller.

The Cost Accountant will develop, analyze and maintain product costing and project accounting across the organization.

Monitor, report on, and analyze plant production and inventory. Monitor costs and margins on large projects and provide cost summaries and margin/variance analysis to the Project Managers & related individuals. Work with Plant Managers and Accountants to identify and implement efficiencies and cost savings. Develop and enhance new costing, project accounting and reporting models to be utilized by the operations team for decision making.

MajorResponsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and direction on costing issues to various departmental managers

  • Monitor costs on large projects and provide cost summaries and margin/variance analysis to various department managers, including monitoring production order variances monthly in assembly department and machine shop to identify any errors in routings, production order confirmations, or SAP calculations.

  • Review and provide monthly analysis on expenses

  • Provide support for SAP with respect to product costing, project accounting and inventory.

  • Validate cost of goods sold as part of month end close

  • Maintain standard costing in bill of materials for both standard products and custom systems.

  • Develop and maintain profitability reports by products, work centers and business units

  • Maintain the transfer pricing module of SAP for manufactured products. Ensure that standard costs and intercompany transfer prices are created in a timely manner for new part numbers. Manage an update of transfer prices as a result of semi-annual cost updates.

  • Report on periodic variances and investigate causes and explanations

  • Review cycle counting variances with materials management and responsible for the year-end reporting package for the auditors

  • Key member of the inventory reduction team. Provides reporting and analysis to assist the various members in the determination of the SS levels, Economic order quantities, Kanban levels.

  • Work with materials management on identifying and resolving slow moving and obsolete inventory issues

  • Create management reporting tools for executive team

  • Review gross margin percentages by customer and product line to ensure that they are in line and gross margins with Sales team

  • Special projects as required by accounting, and other department managers

  • Establish Work Centre rates for each production department

  • Run weekly and month end WIP programs and balance to general ledger

  • Maintain employee allocation to cost centers as employees are hired, change responsibilities or change departments.

  • Maintain good housekeeping practices to ensure workstation is clean, orderly and free of safety hazards.

  • Comply with all company policies & procedures;

  • Assist in other areas as required

Position Requirements:

-Must have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting

or Finance along with a Professional designation: CGA, CMA or CA

-Must have 7+ years of relevant experience

-2years working in a manufacturing background is preferred

-Must have experience with using a

corporate reporting system like SAP or Oracle

-Must demonstrate the ability to be

a team player, work with a sense of urgency, able to meet deadlines and a

\"can do\" attitude

-Able to communicate effectively

both verbally and in writing with a wide range of plant associates, senior

executives and external bodies

-Perform all aspects of the job

responsibilities in a manner that ensures the complete accuracy and integrity

of financial system records

-Knowledge of financial and cost

accounting procedures and practices. Sound knowledge and experience with,

financial and cost accounting.

-Strong ERP knowledge, preferably

several years of cost accounting experience in an SAP project accounting

environment.

-Advanced Excel skills (incl.

Vlookup, Pivot tables & IF function) are required. Intermediate knowledge

of other Microsoft applications (Word & PowerPoint) would be an asset.

-A passion for costing and process

improvement.

-Ability to work flexible hours, occasional

evenings and weekend

Preferences:

-Experience with Oracle, SAP& BPC would be a definite asset

-Preferably several years of cost accounting experience in an SAP project accounting environment

-Experience working with a Publicly Traded Company is preferred
